Dick Portillo
Richard "Dick" Portillo is an American entrepreneur who founded Portillo's, a Chicago-area fast-casual restaurant chain known for its Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. He started the business as a single hot dog stand in Villa Park, Illinois, in 1963 and grew it into a multi-state chain before selling it to private equity firm Berkshire Partners for nearly $1 billion in 2014. Since then he has built a diversified portfolio spanning real estate, private equity, and other restaurant investments.
