Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone

Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone (born 1943 in Rome) is an Italian businessman who controls Caltagirone S.p.A., a Rome-based holding company with interests in cement production, real estate, construction, publishing and finance. He revived his family's construction business in the 1960s and later expanded into major infrastructure through Vianini and into cement via Cementir, and in the 1990s built the newspaper group Caltagirone Editore, publisher of titles such as Il Messaggero and Il Mattino. He also holds significant stakes in leading Italian financial companies, including insurer Assicurazioni Generali; his net worth is estimated at around $2.5 billion.
