James Simons
James Harris Simons (1938–2024) was an American mathematician, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist. He founded Renaissance Technologies, a quantitative hedge fund based in East Setauket, New York, that pioneered systematic trading using mathematical and statistical models, and earlier co-developed the Chern–Simons theory in mathematics. His net worth was estimated at approximately $24 billion.
