Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the Emir of Qatar, having ascended to the throne in June 2013 after his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, abdicated. Born in Doha in 1980, he was educated in the United Kingdom and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1998, later serving as crown prince and helping secure Qatar's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
