Vagit Yusufovich Alekperov is a Russian businessman of Azerbaijani origin, born on 1 September 1950 in Baku. A trained petroleum engineer who began his career in the Soviet oil industry, he founded the oil company Lukoil in the early 1990s and served as its president from 1993 until 2022.
