Vijay Mallya is an Indian businessman who became chairman of the United Breweries Group in 1983, at age 28, following the death of his father, businessman Vittal Mallya. Under his leadership the group grew into a diversified conglomerate spanning alcoholic beverages, aviation, and other industries; he formerly served as chairman of United Spirits, India's largest spirits company, and founded Kingfisher Airlines. He divides his time between California and India.
